Donnie has learned some harsh lessons from living on the streets but has come a long way in a year.
Last spring Donnie, was earning a living by working as a cook in local restaurants and bars. He maintained a full schedule, partly to mask the symptoms of a mental illness he had not treated for five years.
When he lost his job and then his housing, thoughts of suicide began to intensify.
Fortunately, Donnie remembered a friend encouraging him to come to Places for People. He joined therapy groups, volunteered in the Club and now has his own apartment at PfP’s housing facility, Places at Page.
He says, "I’m very grateful for everything Places has done for me since that first day I walked in the door."
Donnie plans to attend culinary school to become a chef. He cooks for his new friends at Page often and is loving having a warm place to sleep every night.
