The Friends of Places for People Trivia Bowl was held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Soulard.
Thirty-one teams participated in the night of general knowledge trivia!
The Friends of PfP are proud to announce that the event, which was presented by West Pine Pharmacy, raised a net total of $13,194 for Places for People. We would like to thank the evening's sponsors, each team captain and all 308 participants for making the Trivia Bowl such a fun night and successful event. Congratulations to Table #2, featuring PfP's own Ellen Kratz as team captain, for winning the Trivia Bowl. The champions answered 89 of 100 questions correctly.
Teams had the opportunity to purchase five mulligans (free answers) before the first round of trivia. Teams could also earn five more mulligans by donating pocket food. Places for People uses “pocket foods” as part of its outreach effort to people who are homeless and have a serious and persistent mental illness.
Examples of pocket foods include:
The
pocket food collection drive came at the perfect time, because the PfP Outreach Team had run just depleted its pocket food supply. PfP uses pocket foods (easily distributed and non-perishable food items) as part of our outreach effort to people who are homeless and have a serious and persistent mental illness.
Participants in the Trivia Bowl helped replenish the Outreach Team's pocket food supply.
We depend on donations to keep our pocket food pantry stocked. If you would like to host a pocket food collection drive, please contact the PfP Development Department at (314) 535-2310.
The majority of people served by PfP live on $710 a month. For those who are lucky enough to have a home, that amount dwindles quickly. After spending money on food, bare necessities and bus tickets, there is little left over. Clients pay what they can for utilities, but sometimes that is not enough. Late fees can mount and the possibility of losing service becomes a frightning prospect.
Could you imagine facing a cold winter night without electricity or gas?
During the Friends of Places for People Trivia Bowl, a special fund raiser was held during the Hepler Broom, LLC, Halftime Show. Emcee Don Shipp and Friends of PfP President Melissa Null asked the more than 300 people in attendance to "give the gift of warmth" by contributing to a special fund to assist people served by PfP pay for utilities this winter.
The response was overwhelming, with $3,096 being donated to this special fund.
If you were not able to attend the Friends of PfP Trivia Bowl and would like to "give the gift of warmth," please donate online. Please mark the "On Behalf of" button in the dedication section and type "Friends of Places for People" to guarantee your donation is directed to the right account.

The Friends of Places for People Trivia Bowl could not have been a success without the hard work of a dedicated group of volunteers. The Friends of PfP would like to thank Ella, Garrett, Georgia, Gloria, Katy and Sarah for all of their help at the registration and mulligan tables, serving refreshments and selling 50/50 and raffle tickets.
