In l983, PfP purchased and renovated a three-story home in the Central West End to provide a transitional Group Home for clients who required closer supervision and more support than was available in an independent living setting.
The West Pine Group Home is a Level I Residential Care Facility that is staffed 24 hours a day with a professional staff including social workers and a nurse. The house is communal, with a shared kitchen and offers support to 12 individuals at a time.
The Group Home is designed to prepare people for living independently in the community. As with the Community Support program, client schedules and goals are planned on an individual basis. Staff of the Group Home make use of community resources (day programs, vocational rehabilitation, job placement programs, etc.) as much as possible to assist the resident in integrating into the larger community.
When clients are ready to leave the Group Home, they are assisted in transitioning to an independent living situation of their own choosing.
