Thank you for considering planned giving. We hope the information below is helpful to you and your family as you consider your future giving plans.
A planned gift results from the donor's careful consideration of a number of important factors, including the purpose of the gift, the assets to be used to fund the gift, the gift's timing, its effect on income-tax and estate-tax planning, and its effects on the donor's family members and friends. A planned gift is best made with the counsel of one's legal, tax or financial advisor.
A bequest is often the most realistic way for many donors to make a significant contribution to Places for People. You have an opportunity in your estate to provide not only for your family and friends, but also for a nonprofit organization close to your heart. Making a bequest to PfP can be as simple as naming us as beneficiary with a specific dollar amount or asset, or a percentage of your residual estate after you have provided for your loved ones.
A beneficiary designation is the simplest way to make a planned gift to Places for People. Requesting a Change of Beneficiary form for your retirement plan, insurance policy or savings account, can be made online, by mail, or by phone in minutes. When you complete your form, name Places for People as a full or partial beneficiary and provide our tax identification number. Most plans, policies or accounts will allow you to name a beneficiary for as little as 5%. Any percentage will have a major impact on Places for People.
Designations can be made on:
A gift of residential or commercial real estate may result in significant tax benefits while providing major support for our core belief that safe and permanent housing is a right for people living in mental illness and must be available and easily accessible. Through a retained life estate arrangement, you can donate a remainder of interest in your home to Places for People and retain lifetime residency rights for you and your partner.
