When you think about going through the process of finding a job it can be pretty lengthy sometimes, and in some cases you really have to sell yourself. Now think about going through the job process if you had a mental health disorder or other co-occurring issues. You may feel like you don’t even know where to begin! Places for People works with individuals who suffer from mental illness in addition to other related issues such as substance abuse, chronic health conditions, and homelessness. As an Employment Specialist you can encourage clients at Places for People, and assist them in achieving their goals in obtaining competitive employment in the community. You’ll work with our clients as well as employers, and no day is really a “typical” work day. You will need to be flexible and creative when trying to determine how best to match clients with jobs that fit their interests and abilities. This position entails collaboration with our clients to develop individualized job searches as well as counseling them on Social Security and State benefit programs, teaching job-seeking skills, and problem solving for being successful in employment and community living. On your job development day you’ll be meeting with new and existing employers to build relationships with them and promote our clients’ skills and strengths in relation to various jobs they have open. By working with more employers in the community, we can continue to dispel the stigma surrounding mental illness. Not only will you be a resource to those we serve at Places for People, but by providing employers with information on various programs such as Tax Credits, the ADA, and Section 503, you can also be a resource to them. Coordinating services with the assigned treatment teams, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors and other providers is also key to ensuring effective employment-related services are provided.

Description: We are seeking a full time Registered Nurse to provide community-based services to clients with mental illness/substance abuse on one of our treatment teams.

Description: We are seeking a full time Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team! You will be responsible for upkeep at our administrative buildings as well as our housing facilities we own.

This is a full-time position and you will be responsible for functions related to employee training and our volunteer program. You will be responsible for creating a learning environment across the agency so that all employees can continue to develop professionally in required areas as well as other areas of expressed interest. In collaboration with the HR team, you’ll also assist with managing the training calendar and continually test and evaluate the trainings. There is always room for improvement! You will help grow and oversee the volunteer program which consists of recruiting, placing, and supervising volunteers. In order to ensure we are meeting our clients’ and teams’ needs, you will also regularly survey staff to see where volunteers could be most helpful. By conducting the volunteer orientation and evaluating and updating the program, you will be able to make sure we are providing the best volunteer experience we can as well as allowing our agency to receive the most benefit from our volunteers.
Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but we certainly are open to considering those who have a high school diploma and previous related experience, as experience in Human Resources is required for this position.
