On Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, the Missouri Housing Development Commission will vote to approve a proposal championed by State Treasurer Clint Zweifel and social service organizations across the State setting aside 33% of federal and state low income housing tax credits (LIHTC) for projects qualifying under a “special needs” priority. This means one third of tax credit housing funds could be allocated to provide supported housing for people with serious mental illness and other disabilities. This vote marks a fitting end to Francie Broderick’s, Places for People’s outgoing executive director, 40 year career as both a mental health advocate and care provider.
