Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies recently honored Robin Adkins, Places for People Board member, as one of 12 recipients of the 2016 Volunteer Recognition Grant. Robin works as a Key Account Specialist for Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
Please meet Meredith. For the past 10 months, Meredith has volunteered her time every other Saturday morning leading a wellness group at Places at Page. In the group she discusses nutrition, exercise, healthy choices, and anything else that might come up. The experience has inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in social work at Washington University in St. Louis this fall.
During National Volunteer Week, we celebrate all of the wonderful volunteers who give time to support Places for People’s mission. Please meet Rose, a graduate student at Washington University in St. Louis, who has volunteered as a tutor at Places for People for more than a year.
Happy National Volunteer Week 2017! National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize, celebrate, and show our gratitude to those who choose to give selflessly to those served by Places for People.
In 2016, volunteers provided 3,403 hours of service to Places for People!
Volunteering is a rewarding experience that can be even more fun when performed as a group activity. Places for People was proud to be one of the non-profit organizations included by Contegix in its 16 in ’16 service initiative. This program allowed Contegix employees paid time off to volunteer for 16 hours during 2016.
Thank you to volunteers from Boeing’s REACH St. Louis program who helped clean one of Places for People’s apartment properties on Saturday. The dedicated volunteers raked leaves, pulled weeds, and trimmed trees.
Volunteers from Greentree Community Church helped spruce up the yard at Places at Page on Saturday as part of the church’s 20:28 Serve Our City day of volunteering. This marked the 12th anniversary of the day of service at Greentree, which sends up to 500 volunteers into the St Louis area each year! We are grateful for the volunteers’ hard work and support on a very hot day! Clients will now be able enjoy the flowers, herbs, and vegetables planted this past weekend at Places at Page. Meet Emily, a volunteer in Places for People’s tutoring program to prepare the people we serve for the HiSet test to achieve their educational goals. “My experience as a tutor has taught me so much more than I am able to give back to the clients.”
