With more than 30 years’ experience in the mental health care field, Joe understands how critical it is for those in need to have access to quality mental and behavioral health care. He joined Community Alternatives in 2007 as Executive Director but began his professional career with PfP’s Club. Joe was later named the first director of PfP’s West Pine Group Home, which opened in 1983 as the first psychiatric group home in the St. Louis area.
Gary Morse, Ph.D.
Vice President of Research and Development
Since 1981, Gary has served in the mental health care field providing behavioral health services, researching and developing best practices, administering programs, consulting, and training. In 1995, he founded the mental health care organization Community Alternatives after Missouri privatized outpatient mental health services. CA joined with Places for People in January 2011 to provide more clients with expanded services.
Dr. Meredith Throop
Dr. Meredith Throop started as Places for People’s first full-time medical director in October 2015. The St. Louis native performed her undergraduate work at Amherst College, then finished her pre-medical training at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Throop graduated from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She was introduced to Places for People when she performed her psychiatry residency at PfP. As medical director, Throop oversees all integrated medical and psychiatric services at Places for People.
Vice President of Human Resources
A former community support staff member at Places for People, Jaime Greenfield has served in the Human Resources department at Places for People since the mid-2000s. The two-person human resources department is now responsible for almost 300 employees. In addition to her role in Human Resources, Jaime also participates in the Wellness committee, Chair of the Safety Committee, the Incentives Committee, the Performance Excellence Committee of the Board of Directors, Chair of the PfP’s HR Committee, the Risk Management, and the Training and Development committees.
Vice President of Finance and Facilities
As the Vice President of Finance and Facilities, Laura began her career at Places for People as a community support worker in 1989 then, as PfP expanded, transitioned into a variety of fiscal/administrative roles until 2001. In 2004 she went to Community Alternatives as the CFO of the newly-developed non-profit organization. She remained with Community Alternatives until 2011 when CA merged with PfP. Laura has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Work from UMSL, and received her MBA from Fontbonne University in 1997.
Vice President of Development and Advancement
Kristine Mannecke joined Places for People as Vice President of Development and Advancement in August 2016. Kristine most recently led the fundraising, marketing and volunteer initiatives at Covenant House Missouri as part of the leadership team. Prior to joining Covenant House Missouri, Kristine spent 11 years as a driving force for Wyman Center, a national nonprofit that enables teens from low-resource environments to develop strong leadership and social and emotional learning skills in order to become thriving adults. Kristine holds a Master’s degree in Marketing from Webster University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Advertising from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Clinical Director – CPRP
Scott has been in the mental health field since 1985 and joined PfP in 1998 as a clinical director. His expertise includes designing and managing housing with on-site supports to help people recover from serious mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders. Currently, Scott supervises PfP’s community support teams, the Club, and our supported housing projects.
Clinical Director – Assertive Community Treatment
Clinical Director of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Nicole Stewart, LCSW, oversees Places for People’s five ACT teams. Her primary goal is to empower and support the ACT teams’ pursuit of providing quality services and continuing to improve outcomes for the people served by Places for People. A Texas native, Nicole attended Saint Louis University, where she earned her bachelor’s and masters’ degrees in social work. Nicole was introduced to Places for People in 2008 as a practicum student. Nicole joined Places for People’s staff in a full-time capacity after graduating in 2009, and became an ACT team leader in 2012. She was named Clinical Director of ACT in 2015.
Clinical Director of Special Projects
Clinical Director of Special Projects Barbara Zawier, MSW, LCSW, oversees most clinical service delivery and quality assurance activities at Places for People. She helps develop, update, and monitor standard operating procedures, crisis intervention services, staff development, and training. Barb is a graduate of State University College of New York at Buffalo where she received her Bachelor’s of Social Work in 1982. She received her Master’s of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, George Warren Brown School of Social Work in 1984.
