A Place for Healing

The Campaign for Places for People

You can strengthen our community's behavioral health safety net!

Help us create a powerful impact on mental and physical healing.

about the campaign

Since 1972, Places for People has been a leading voice in providing person-centered services to people who are living with mental health and substance use disorders. We have raised more than 2/3 of the $9.2 million we need to renovate our new health center. This state-of-the-art Center will allow us to expand our services for adults, children and families like Calvin’s.

Contact Vice President of Development and Advancement, Johanna R. Jones, to learn more.

With this new space we can:

  • Serve more than 2,500 people living with mental health or co-occurring disorder per year
  • Provide training, consultation, technical assistance to increase the capacity of our regional behavioral health system
  • Help more people in need before critical situations arise (early intervention)
  • Allow for future expansion of services

Being grateful

It’s easy to fall into a negative mood during stressful times and to focus on what is wrong instead of what is right. Our happiness and well-being are enhanced when we consciously remind ourselves and take a moment to consider or write down three things for which we are grateful.

Eight strategies to manage stress and emotions

  • Awareness
  • Acceptance
  • Control
  • Limit Exposure
  • Rest and Relaxation
  • Connection
  • Joy and fun
  • Gratitude

Contolled breathing exercise

  • Choose a word that you associate with relaxation
  • Inhale through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth
  • While you exhale, say the relaxing word you chose. Say it very slowly like this, “caaaaaalm”
  • Pause after exhaling before taking your next breath and count to 4
  • Repeat this sequence 10-15 times
