Derek’s Journey
I figured something was wrong with me for a long time, but I didn't know what to do.
"I thought something was wrong with me when I heard voices."
A lawyer representing Derek in court connected him with Places for People in 2012. At the time, he was homeless, living with an undiagnosed mental illness. "I kept going to jail for loitering," he recalls.
Derek re-established his place in the community.
Working with his treatment team, Derek re-established his insurance, connected with doctors, and maintained stable housing. Over the past few years, he has encountered challenges every so often, but is able to apply the coping skills he has worked on at Places for People.
I tell people to go to Places for People all the time.
