Rights of Persons Served
Persons participate in services of Places for People (PfP) voluntarily. Each individual has basic rights to humane care and treatment that cannot be limited under any circumstances. All persons served have all of the civil and legal rights of any other member of the community and should be treated accordingly. Our philosophy of care is based on the belief that persons served have the following rights:
These Rights may not be limited at any time or in any way:
- To receive prompt evaluation, care and treatment
- To receive these services in the least restrictive environment
- To receive these services in a clean and safe setting
- To receive services without discrimination based on, race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, creed, marital status, national origin, disability, age, or military status
- To confidentiality of information and records in accordance with federal and state law and regulation
- To be treated with dignity and addressed in a respectful, age appropriate manner
- To be free from verbal, sexual and physical abuse, neglect, corporal punishment, and other mistreatment such as humiliation, threats, or exploitation
- To be the subject of an experiment or research only with one’s informed, written consent, or the consent of an individual legally authorized to act, and to decide to withdraw at any time
- To medical care and treatment in accordance with accepted standards of medical practice
- To consult with a private, licensed practitioner at one’s own expense
- To participate in treatment planning and to have treatment plans explained verbally and in writing
- To refuse participation in non-therapeutic labor
- To not have food, money, or anything that is rightfully one’s own withheld as punishment
- To refuse treatment
- To never be photographed or video/audio recorded without consent
- To refuse participation in any agency public information program
- To have opinions different from staff
- To file a complaint or grievance and receive an impartial review if one believes that any of the rights listed above have been violated
- Access or referral to legal entities for appropriate representation, self-help support services, and advocacy support services.
